Mike Bibby Forfeits 2011-12 Salary

Mike Bibby Forfeits 2011-12 Salary

Mike Bibby was desperate to become a free agent and leave the Washington Wizards, the team that just traded for him at the 2011 NBA trade deadline. To make that happen, Bibby accepted a buyout from the Wizards in which he forfeits the $6.2 million he was set to make in the 2011-12 season. Rarely do you ever see an athlete give up that type of guaranteed money solely for the sake of winning.

Who will Mike Bibby sign with? My guess is the Miami Heat. Their point guard position is a weakness. There’s a good shot that Bibby could step in and start for the Heat right away. Though he’s slower than he used to be, Bibby can shoot it — and that’s what the Heat really need out of their point guard.
The Celtics could also be an option, although playing behind Rajon Rondo might not be something Bibby wants to do. If the Lakers think that Derek Fisher is washed up, they too may inquire about adding Bibby’s services.
After saving more than $6 million, the Wizards could have more than $20 million to spend on free agents this summer. That could go a long way towards rebuilding a team that is near rock bottom
